On Thursday, June 13, 2024, CSRL welcomed the Deputy Regional Governor of Crete for Liaison with Academic and Research Institutes, Dr. George Matalliotakis. During the visit, the Deputy Regional Governor was informed about the structure and staffing, the areas of activity, and the particularly dynamic development of the Control Systems and Robotics Laboratory. He also had the opportunity to witness in action a series of robotic prototypes developed by CSRL within the framework of funded research programs. These include the greenhouse robot for cultivation tasks (monitoring plant growth and detecting infestations, applying phytosanitary sprays, and harvesting fruits), a teleoperation system with haptic feedback for robotic surgery applications, soft robotics devices, and our biomimetic underwater robot. After the tour, a fruitful discussion followed in a warm atmosphere on issues of infrastructure, collaborations, and proposal development. The Deputy Regional Governor expressed his admiration for the high level of research conducted at CSRL and emphasized the willingness of the Region of Crete to support and promote the Laboratory’s initiatives related to the connection and transfer of knowledge and innovation to the island’s productive sectors.
