Automatic Control Systems
7th Semester
The control of machines, plants and processes is a key element of the science and technology of Mechanical Engineering. The aim of this advanced course in the direction of Robotics – Mechatronics is to give the student the necessary control knowledge as well as the technology necessary to design, analyze the operation, simulate and finally implement “demanding” closed loop control systems.
The course content includes:
Introduction,historical review, typical examples of closed loop control systems from industry, plants and machines, mathematical models of physical systems, transfer functions, equations of state, transient response analysis, stability of linear systems, basic control actions, analysis of the basic actions with the help of root locus, frequency response, reference, overview of state space representation of control systems, state variable feedback, optimal control, reference to other control approaches: fuzzy logic, neural networks, genetic algorithms.
In the laboratory part of the course, students: Design and simulate the behavior of closed-loop systems with the help of appropriate tools (eg Simulink). They implement a closed-loop speed and position control system (servo mechanism).
Required knowledge: Infinite Calculus I, Informatics, Informatics for Engineers, Control Theory and Technology.
